About Us: -
Sunrise Organization for Civil Society Development (Sunrise NGO) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit, and impartial organization founded in 2015 by a group of volunteers in response to the genocide committed by the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) against the Yazidi community on August 3, 2014.
We are officially registered in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (2015), with the Federal Government of Iraq (2017), and internationally in the Netherlands (2025). Sunrise operates mainly in Nineveh Governorate, Sinjar (Shingal) and Ba’aj, regions that continue to face displacement, recovery, and rebuilding challenges.
Sunrise implements programs in education, protection, livelihoods, MHPSS, social cohesion, and peacebuilding. The core focus of our work is creating safe, inclusive, and sustainable environments for all community members, regardless of religion, gender, age, disability, or ethnic background. Our strength lies in our diverse membership, which brings together Muslim, Christian, and Yazidi members, united by a shared commitment to humanitarian values and peacebuilding.
Guided by the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, independence, transparency, and “do no harm,” Sunrise strives to restore hope, build resilience, and foster dignity in communities working to rebuild their lives after conflict.

Our Mission
Sunrise aims to help children live in an environment that enables them to enjoy their childhood and develop their potential through accessible education and recreational activities. We also promote more active involvement of women in the society and support the integration of people with special needs.
Our Vision
Our vision is a future with a shared environment based on acceptance, respect and peace, a community where all members of the society including children, women, the elderly and members of all religious groups have equal rights and opportunities.
