Sunrise Organization for Civil Society Development
Sunrise Organization for Civil Society Development (Sunrise NGO) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political and impartial organization. It was founded by a group of volunteers in 2014 with the goal to provide support to the community and address the needs that arose immediately after the beginning of the conflict in Iraq. It is registered in Iraq and Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Sunrise NGO operates in Ira, in the governorate of Nineveh- Sinjar (Shingal) and Ba’aj. One of the core goals pursued by the organization is to participate in the creation and the preservation of a safe and sustainable environment for local communities regardless of their religion, gender, disabilities, age, and ethnic background. Sunrise works in different sectors including education, protection of women and children, livelihood, MHPSS, and peacebuilding and social cohesion. The organization supports membership of people from any of these backgrounds who are interested in the humanitarian field and want to be peacemakers. Sunrise has Muslim, Christian, and Yazidi members. We follow the humanitarian principles of: humanity, independence, neutrality, transparency, impartiality and do not harm.
Our Mission
Sunrise aims to help children live in an environment that enables them to enjoy their childhood and develop their potential through accessible education and recreational activities. We also promote more active involvement of women in the society and support the integration of people with special needs.
Our Vision
Our vision is a future with a shared environment based on acceptance, respect and peace, a community where all members of the society including children, women, the elderly and members of all religious groups have equal rights and opportunities.
